State of Decay Sandbox Mode, Steam Version, and Possibly MMO in the Works
State of Decay is a zombie survival game from Undead Labs that clocked in over half a million copies sold, claiming the title of fastest-selling original Xbox Live Arcade game. With its success, Undead Labs announced that a survival sandbox mode and a PC version on Steam is in the works. Jeff Strain, Executive Producer says this:
“I can tell you we’re working on a sandbox mode designed to be a pure survival simulation. Beyond that, all I can say is we pay very close attention to what fans of the game are asking for, and their needs will largely guide our development priorities, so stay tuned.
We’re currently working on a PC version for release on Steam. Fortunately it’s been in development alongside the Xbox 360 version since Day 1, so we just need to integrate with the Steam platform and add native support for keyboard and mouse control. We’ll also continue to issue Title Updates at a fast pace to refine game balance and fix bugs.”
Furthermore, in previous interviews Strain has stated that State of Decay was a precursor to an MMO they intended to create. However, they are under negotiations with Microsoft who owns the IP rights to Class 4, the MMO that Undead Labs wants to create and can’t move forward until an agreement is reached.

Number One Inc Reveals The Witness Poster
Number One Inc has revealed the poster they created for ther 3D puzzle game named The Witness. The poster was first briefly seen in Playstation’s commercial Greatness Awaits at around 0:57.
For those unfamiliar with The Witness, it’s a first person puzzle adventure. The player finds him or herself on an island with numerous structures, natural formations, and tons of puzzles. However, this isn’t simply a puzzle game states Jonathan Blow:
“The point is the magic that happens in the player’s mind when he understands the subtle things that the mazes are saying - because the mazes aren’t just puzzles, they are lines of communication that aggregate, become more complex and eventually say surprising things”
The Witness is slated for a PlayStation 4, PC, and iOS release, stay tuned.

Kiefer Sutherland to Voice Solid Snake
Konami revealed that Snake will get a new voice actor in its pre-E3 conference. Kiefer Sutherland, best known as Jack Bauer from the series 24 will be replacing the iconic David Hayter as the voice of Solid Snake. Hayter stated:
“If it were my choice, I would do this role forever. To hear anyone else’s voice coming from Snake’s battered throat, makes me a little ill, to be honest. But the truth is it’s not my choice. Any and all casting decisions are the sole purview of Hideo Kojima, and Konami itself. And that’s fair.”
Kojima himself stated that with Metal Gear Solid V they would be using more facial capture technology:
“This time with Metal Gear Solid V the themes are a little difference from previous games in the series. We’re taking on some very heavy subjects, such as race and revenge. This makes the tone much darker. As a result, I wanted snake to have a more subdued performance expressed through subtle facial movements and tone of voice, rather than words.
The game takes place in 1984, when Snake is 49 years old. Therefore, we needed someone who could genuinely convey the facial and vocal qualities of a man in his late 40s. It’s different from anything we’ve done before, So I asked a producer friend of mine in Hollywood, Avi Arad, for advice.
He’s the one who introduced me to Mr Kiefer Sutherland. And I was like, ‘Why didn’t I think of that?’ I felt [Sutherland] was the perfect fit in terms of age and performance.”
Check out the video footage above for a brief interview of Sutherland and how he feels about taking on the iconic role of Solid Snake.

Square Enix Announces Deus Ex: The Fall
Square Enix has just announced their mobile and tablet game, Deus Ex: The Fall. Developed by Square Enix’s European Mobile division in collaboration with the original Deus Ex: Human Revolution team at Eidos-Montreal and N-Fusion. The story of The Fall is set after the Human Revolution prequel novel, Deus Ex: Icarus Effect and will feature never before seen characters and picks up where the novel leaves off. Jon Brooke, Square Enix Europe’s Marketing Director says:
“This isn’t about tablets vs next gen. We’re a big publisher, so you know we’ll be showing next gen gaming at E3 next week. We’re as serious about next gen as we are about tablet gaming. As a publisher, we believe all platforms present opportunities and if you create the right content, we believe we can have success. I don’t think many companies understand what you can do with these platforms. We’re trying to showcase what the platform can do by building a game from the ground up.”
Deus Ex: The Fall will be released this summer for $6.99, and will be on display at E3 next week.
